2008 CamaroConsumers and automotive journalists are excited about the return of Camaro. Yet, there is concern that GM may have made yet another crucial mistake. After all we may love the vehicle, but when it comes to purchasing the vehicle…is it possible for most people? The majority of society are unable to afford vehicles with such a high price range.

Now granted, the new Camaro is no six-figure vehicle, but it is a double-digit gas hog. That comes with the big V-8 (and big V-6, in base models) under its hood. With gas rising to $3 per gallon, topping off the 20-something gallon tank of a V-8 muscle car will run you about $70. And that will last you about a week, maybe. So you are talking about $300 bucks per month for fuel.

2009 CamaroGeneral Motors is reconsidering plans to offer a wide range of rear-drive vehicles in North America. The reason for this reconsideration is the government’s mounting pressure on automakers to improve fuel economy.

In doubt are the next-generation Chevrolet Impala and other models. Plans have been thrown into disarray by the Bush administration’s call for a higher corporate average fuel economy, called CAFE, and uncertainty over carbon dioxide regulations.

GM and the Chrysler group also are weighing the impact of proposed regulations on future vehicle and engine programs. “We haven’t made any changes to our global product plan at this point,” said John Smith, GM group vice president of global product planning, in an e-mail. “However, we continue to cautiously monitor pending regulations and their implications to some segments.”

2009 CamaroThe Chevrolet Camaro sports coupe will be a standout feature at the 2007 Adelaide Motor Show starting March 28. Confirmed for production and sale in North America in the first quarter of 2009, significant elements of Camaro’s engineering and design work is being done at GM’s centre of rear wheel drive expertise at Fishermans Bend, Melbourne. GM global design executive Tony Stolfo said Camaro was a prime example of GM’s ability to successfully work across continents on global projects.
